Features / HTTPS ports and SSH

Every port gets its own HTTPS address.

Start a dev server, an API or a webhook receiver in a sandbox and publish its port. It gets an address under on.pols.so with a valid certificate, and it stays private until you make it public. SSH works with the keys you already have.

curl -fsSL https://pols.so/install.sh | sh

One command per port

pols host prints the address, such as https://sbx-3k9x2m1q8zt4-3000.on.pols.so, and a login link for it. Send the link to whoever should see the page. The server has to listen on0.0.0.0, not only on 127.0.0.1.

pols CLI
# a server on port 3000
$ pols exec web -- docker run -d -p 3000:80 nginx
# private: prints the address and a login link
$ pols host web 3000
# public: anyone with the address
$ pols host web 3000 --public
# register your key once, then SSH in
$ pols ssh-key add ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub
$ pols ssh web

What happens to a request

  1. TLS on our host

    The pols edge holds a certificate for *.on.pols.so and terminates TLS on our own server. No CDN or proxy service sits in front.

  2. Login check

    A private port only answers once you have logged in for that one address. Everyone else is stopped at the edge and never reaches your app.

  3. Your port

    The request goes to the port over the host's private network. Ports you have not published cannot be reached at all.

Private or public

Private (default)Public (--public)
Who can open itBrowsers logged in with a link from pols hostAnyone with the address
Use it forDev servers, admin pages, a preview for a colleagueWebhooks, demos, APIs with their own authentication

Publish the port again with or without --public to switch. SSH goes through ssh.pols.so: a registered key opens every running sandbox of your org, and scp, sftp and port forwarding work.
